About SabreCats Maine Coons Cats:
Our Maine Coons were our friends and companions whom we shared our home with. And yes in our home you saw the cats on the tables, on the couch – even sleeping right in the middle of the room on the floor lying on their back with all 4 paws in the air, and don´t give much for that noise we were making. Their cat toys were spread all over the room and even when we cleaned the home, we get good help from our feline friends – oh yes we did. They looked at at us with a “are you sane, human. You are putting my toy up back in the basket” then running over to the basket to find it again :-)) Kittens were running around vacuumer and showed how dangerous they were or just jumped around with their toys and not worry about the big noisy thing..-)
But we loved our life at home with our feline friends very much – we do miss not sharing our home with them.
About our cattery name:
Our cattery name “SabreCats” comes from Catherinas last name Sabroe, which are not easy to pronounce in English and therefore often are pronounced Sabre and since we shared a passion for the Maine Coon Cats and in general love cats, it was obvious to call our cattery for SabreCats.
The name also leads one to think back on the fascinating feline creature Sabretooth, which lived on this planet ages ago. Our cattery name were registered in TICA, CFA and FIFé.
How it all started:
Our adventure with this amazing cat breed started when we both got introduced to them through one of Brian’s work colleagues, who had a small breeding with them. Slowly we began to adopt the idea of that we could not live without having a Maine Coon as a pet in our home. So we began our search after a Maine Coon.
The Maine Coon Fever
In spring 2003 a beautiful red silver neuter boy entered our home, life and captured our hearts completely. We were smitten with the well know virus called “You cannot just have one Maine Coon”. And before we looked around we had our home filled up with several of these beauties.
And at the same time Catherina began to dig into all about feline husbandry, feline health and was eager on learning all about Maine Coon Cats and breeds history. Slowly a small breeder to sprout within her. So all planning in the cattery with research on pedigrees, planning litter etc. were Catherinas interest mostly but Brian & Amanda loved taking care of the cats with grooming and showing them. So show became our family thing.
It´s passionate lifestyle filled with Fabulous Felines, Fun and Friendships
We have through the years been so fortunate to meet so many lovely people in the cat fancy who shared our passion for cats, pedigree cats, breeding, cats show and made many friendships all along too. Some of them have given us the most wonderful cats which we were so happy to have had in our lives.
Because of their trust, we have been able to make wonderful kittens to happy owners and working to towards some of our goals. And some of them also became mentors for us and gave us so much knowledge on breeding and the breed itself. With their trust, help and support, we became the cattery we wanted to be.
But Maine Coon, what makes them so special and popular and why breeding?
Well for us the answer were that they are so laid back, people oriented and dog like in their behavior. They settle so easily into their homes and families, loves being around both adults, kids, dogs, other cats and other animals.
It´s a breed who not only are large and gentle, but also a very beautiful breed which still resembles is ancestors trait “a large cat coming out of the woods” . You are smitten by them because you quickly learn that they are your friends and companions for life!
All this made us wanted to preserve the breed for the future.
